The Four Rings is gaining momentum in autonomous vehicle testing. At the end of May, New York gave Audi permission to begin the next stage of autonomous vehicle understanding. In the middle of June, according to a press release from the automotive company, Audi will perform the first-ever autonomous vehicle test at the Empire State's capital in Albany. Audi plans on demonstrating and testing these cars with Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE) Level 3 automation.
Level 3 is a fancy term for a car that's capable of automated driving at posted highway speeds when certain conditions are present. Because Audi always has safety in mind, two trained engineers will be present to monitor the automated system and ensure safety. However, Audi has been practicing automated vehicle safety for some time. The brand's demonstration cruiser has safely traveled thousands of miles of limited access across the North American highway system, signifying that it's ready to take on its next challenge in automated vehicle development.
“New York State is a nationwide leader in innovative highway safety programs and the potential for autonomous vehicles to save lives on our roadways is immeasurable,” Governor Andrew Cuomo said.
